What is AI?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broad field that includes techniques for building software systems that can perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence. AI includes machine learning, natural language processing, speech recognition and computer vision, among other topics. Some AI tools are "general-purpose," meaning they can be applied across many different types of problems. Other tools are more specialized, such as those designed to play a specific game or accomplish a specific task. Software developers often deploy general-purpose AI in consumer products like chatbots and virtual assistants.
