What is Facebook?

Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004. Facebook allows users to create profiles, upload photos, send messages, and receive notifications that friends have joined the network. Although initially only available to Harvard students (and subsequently other universities), Facebook has grown into one of the largest social networks in terms of active membership, including over 2 billion registered users as of June 2017. The name "Facebook" originated from a colloquialism for the directory given to students at the university so they can look up other students.

Facebook development topics include Objective-C, Swift, React Native, and GraphQL. Facebook apps may also require integration with other APIs such as Parse or Firebase. Additional topics related to Facebook include application monetization, social network integration, and marketing strategy.
