"Internet of Things" (IoT) is a term used to describe the paradigm in which devices of all types are connected and able to communicate with each other. Connected devices of all types include smartphones, tablets, PCs, smartwatches, connected cars and appliances like washing machines and refrigerators. IoT is an inter-network that connects various types of networks such as LANs (Local Area Networks), WANs (Wide Area Networks) and MANs (Metropolitan Area Networks). An IoT network may be private or public and may consist of numerous protocols such as TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol).
